Description:

Portuguese copper 5 reis, 1736

Diameter 29mm

The obverse features the Coat of Arms of the Royal House of Braganza. The inscription reads 'IOANNES V DEI GRATIA', meaning 'John V By the Grace of God'. The reverse features the denomination flanked by two rosettes above the date. All are within a wreath that is tied at the base with a bow. The inscription around the outside reads 'PORTUGALIAE ET ALGARBIORUM REX', meaning 'King of Portugal and Algarves'.
