Netherlands East Indies - Indonesian copper 2 1/2 cents, 1857

The obverse features the coat of arms of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a lion rampant with a sword in its right fore paw and a bundle of seven arrows in its left on a shield decorated with fifteen smaller shields and with a crown above. The shield divides the date and the mintmarks of Utrecht, a sword and caduceus, are to the bottom left and right. The central image appears within a beaded ring around which are the words 'NEDERLANDSCH INDIE/ 2 1/2 CENT'. The reverse features Arabic script within a central beaded ring and a second script, possibly Tamil, is around the outside.
