Description:

German States - Wurttemberg, silver gulden, 1841

Diameter 30mm

A silver coin commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the reign of Wilhelm I. The obverse features the laureate bust of Wilhelm I facing left. The inscription reads 'WILHELM KONIG V. WURTTEMBERG', meaning 'Wilhelm King of Wurttemberg'. Directly beneath the bust is the name 'Voigt', possibly that of the designer or engraver. The reverse features a classically robed female figure seated. Her left arm rests on a shield bearing the arms of Wurttemberg. In her right hand she holds a torch. She is wearing a wreath and crown on her head. At either side are childlike figures. They are bearing the cornucopia and the fasces with an axe bound in the middle. The inscription around the outside makes reference to the 25th anniversary 'ZUR FEYER 25 JAEHRIGER REGIERUNG'. The date is below.
