Description:

Isle of Man copper halfpenny, 1798

Diameter 27mm

The obverse features the bust of George III facing right. The inscription reads 'GEORGIUS III. D:G. REX', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'George III By the Grace of God, King', with the date below. The reverse features the symbol of the Isle of Man, three legs conjoined to form a triangular shape. The inscription around the outside reads 'QUOCUNQUE JECERIS STABIT', a motto which also appears on the Manx Coat of Arms and can be literally translated as 'Whithersoever You Throw It, It Will Stand'.
