Description:

English bronze halfpenny, 1911

Diameter 25mm

The obverse features the bust of George V facing left. The inscription reads 'GEORGIUS V DEI GRA: BRITT:OMN:REX FID:DEF:IND:IMP', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'George V By the Grace of God King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. The reverse is barely legible on this example, with much of the outer edge completely worn. Just visible is Britannia seated and facing right with a shield at her side. She rests her right hand on the shield and carries Poseidon's trident in her left hand. Flanking her should be the value 'HALF/ PENNY' with the date below but this is not visible on this example.
