Egyptian billon qirsh, Hejira date 1223 (28th Febuary 1808-15th Febuary 1809)

Diameter 19mm

The obverse features the tughra, a calligraphic seal or signature, of Mahmud II. The Adli is to the right and there is a wreath decoration around the outside. The obverse features the regnal year, twenty-eight. Below is Arabic script reading 'was struck in Misr' (Egypt). At the base is the year 1223, the first year of the reign of Mahmud II. All this is within a wreath. There is a hole pierced in the coin which is not part of the original design.
