Medal struck to mark the festival held at Stratford-upon-Avon to celebrate the tercentenary of Shakespeare's birth. The obverse features the bust of Shakespeare in high relief, facing left. Underneath the bust is written 'H.BROWN CRYSTAL PALACE'. The inscription reads 'WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE: BORN APRIL 23. 1564. DIED APRIL 23.1616'. The reverse features Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon with the inscription 'BIRTHPLACE OF SHAKESPEARE' below and 'STRATFORD UPON AVON FESTIVAL 1864' around the outside.
