French 25 centimes, 1904

Diameter 23mm

The obverse features Marianne wearing the Phrygian or liberty cap and facing left, the cap has an olive branch attached. To the right of the bust is the name 'A.Patey', possibly that of the designer or engraver. The inscription reads 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE'. The reverse features the denomination, '25 Centimes', towards the top right. To the left is the fasces, a bundle of sticks bound together to symbolise authority and strength in unity, with an axe protruding. Behind the fasces is an oak branch, which extends under the denomination and the date is below. The cornucopia and the torch underneath are Privy Marks for the Parisian Mint Director and Engraver General respectively.
