Description:

Spanish silver 2 reales, 1761

Diameter 26mm

The obverse features the Coat of Arms of the Royal House of Bourbon. It bears symbols of their Kingdoms and territories all over Europe including Spain, France and Italy. The letters flanking the shield should be read separately as 'R/ II', which is the denomination abbreviated. 'S' for the Seville mint, and 'JV' for the initials of the assayers at the Seville mint. There is a crown above the shield and the inscription reads 'CAROLUS III D G', 'Latin, abbreviated for Charles III By the Grace of God, separated by six-petalled flowers. The reverse features the Coat of Arms of Castile and Leon surrounded by a double border with four arches and four points. The inscription reads 'HISPANIARUM REX', 'King of the Spanish', divided by a six-petalled flower. The date above is flanked by two six-petalled flowers.
