Description:

English copper token, 1794

Diameter 28mm

This token commemorates the Royal Navy's victory, led by 1st Earl Howe (1726-1799), over the Revolutionary French on 1 June 1794. The obverse features the bust of Earl Howe facing left and the words 'EARL HOWE & THE GLORIOUS FIRST OF JUNE' around the outside. The reverse features Britannia seated and facing left with a shield at her side and a spear in her right hand. The inscription reads 'RULE BRITANNIA' and the date is below.
