Description:

English silver fourpence or groat, 1855

Diameter 15mm

The obverse features the 'young head' bust of Queen Victoria facing left. The inscription reads 'VICTORIA DG BRITANNIAR REGINA', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'Victoria By the Grace of God Queen of the Britains'. The obverse features Britannia seated and facing right, she has a shield at her side and carries a spear in her left hand. The date is below and 'FOUR PENCE' is inscribed flanking the central image.
