Description:

Italian silver 1 lira, 1863

Diameter 23mm

The obverse features the bust of the King of Italy facing right. The inscription reads 'VITTORIO EMANUELE II' and the date is below. The name printed below the bust, Branin, is possibly that of the designer or engraver. The reverse features Vittorio Emanuele's coat of arms. This consists of the flag of Savoy encircled by a medal collar and a laurel wreath with a crown above. The inscription reads 'REGNO D'ITALIA', 'Kingdom of Italy', with the denomination written as 'L.1' below. To the left of the denomination is the letter 'M', the mintmark for Milan. To the right are the letters 'BN' within a rectangle.
