Description:

English copper halfpenny, 1694

Diameter 28mm

The obverse features the cuirassed busts of William and Mary facing right, William laureate and to the fore. The inscription reads 'GULIELMUS.ET.MARIA.' although it is almost illegible, especially on the right side. The reverse features Britannia who is seated and facing left, she has a shield at her side and holds a spear in her left hand and an olive branch in her right. The inscription reads' BRITANNIA' and the date is below but is illegible. This type of halfpenny was only produced in 1694.
