Description:

Province of Prince Edward Island, bronze one cent, 1871

Diameter 25mm

The obverse features the diademed bust of Queen Victoria facing left within a central beaded ring. The inscription around the outside reads 'VICTORIA QUEEN' and the date below is flanked by flowers. The reverse features an island with three small oak saplings to the left, representing the three counties. They are protected by a large oak tree on the right representing Great Britain. The Latin legend underneath reads, 'PARVA SUB INGENTI', meaning 'The Small Protected by The Great'. All appear within a central beaded ring. The inscription around the outside reads 'PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND/ ONE CENT', divided by flowers.
