British West Africa (Gambia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Ghana) copper-nickel 1/10 penny, 1836

Diameter 20mm

Circular coin with a central circular hole. The obverse features a six-pointed star made up of two triangles. The inscription 'BRIT/ ISH/ WEST/ AFRICA/ .19/ 36.' is in the six angles. The reverse features the denomination around the central pierced hole, flanked by decorative convex designs. The inscription around the outside reads 'EDWARDUS VIII/ REX ET IND: IMP', Latin meaning 'Edward VIII/ King and Emperor of India'. This inscription is divided by a crown. The script below is possibly Arabic.
