Anglo-Prussian medal, 1862


Diameter 41mm


Medal struck to commemorate Prince Albert at the time of the International Exhibition of 1862. The obverse features the bust of Prince Albert facing left with the inscription 'TO THE COMMEMORATION OF HIS LATE R.H. THE PRINCE CONSORT ALBERT'. Underneath is the name 'Schnitzspahn', possibly the artist of the bust. The obverse features the building that housed the International Exhibition which was situated beside the gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society, South Kensington. Above is the inscription 'INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION 1862' and below 'STAMPED IN THE BUILDING/ BY H. UHLHORN/ OF GREVENBROICH/ PRUSSIA'.
