Medal struck to commemorate Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. The obverse features the bust of the Duke of Wellington facing left with the inscription 'DUKE OF WELLINGTON'. The reverse features a monument bearing the words 'TO BRITAIN'S HERO' with the surrounding inscription 'BORN MAY 1st 1769/ DIED SEP 14th 1852'. Wellington was an Anglo-Irish soldier and statesman who rose to the rank of Field Marshal and Commander in Chief of the British Army. He is perhaps best known for leading the British army to victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. He was also Prime Minister from 1828 to 1830.
