Description:This is a Zulu love letter necklace. It is made from coloured glass beads. Love letter necklaces were made by teenage girls for the young men they were attracted to. The different coloured beads symbolise different meanings; white beads standing for purity and truth, red for passion or anger, pink for poverty, royalty or a vow, and green for domestic bliss. By arranging the beads in a certain way the girls could convey a particular message in the necklaces.
