Description:Toys become even more interesting when we know something about their history. This doll belonged to Winifred Woodcock, who was born in 1934. It was a Christmas present in 1938, when she was 4 years old. Like many children, Winifred was evacuated at the start of World War II (1939 - 1945), and she took this doll with her.
"Our parents were not told where we were going. We were given a postcard to post home a week later to say where we were. Luggage labels with our names were attached to our coats, and we sat, at the end of a long day, waiting to be chosen. Our dolls or teddies were a great comfort to us. I was away 6 years. My doll has a history - a 'war doll'. She came through with just a broken leg!"
