Description:This doll has a porcelain head with painted hair and features. It is called a 'glazed china' because the head has been given an overglaze to make it shiny. Glazed china heads were popular until the 1860's, when they were replaced by a matt (unshiny) porcelain called bisque It has a fabric body and leather hands. The clothes, including cotton underwear and brown silk dress and bonnet, are all original. They are miniature versions of women's dress in the mid 19th century. From the early 19th century, German porcelain manufacturers began to make doll's head in addition to their other products.
