Description:Letter fragment to Alice Helps on the death of her father.

It is believed that the lower part of this letter may reside in the Royal Collection, as Queen Victoria wanted the signatures of George Eliot and George Henry Lewes.

Dear Alice

A silent pressure of your hand to assure that you that the calamity whch has fallen on you is felt by us. We know how devoted your love for your father - we know how loveable he was - nothing more to be said!


Note: George Eliot (born Mary Ann Evans) was a local authoress based in the Coventry and Nuneaton district, from 1819-1880.
