Date:14th of October 1845

Description:In 1841 Mary Ann (George Eliot) moved to Bird Grove, Coventry with her retired father. It was here that she made friends with Reverend John Sibree and his family. This letter is a brief one thanking his son John for a second note he has sent her before her trip to Scotland with Sara Henell and Cara Bray (Sara's sister)

Transcript:

In the hurry of setting off suddenly for Scotland Miss Evans is anxious to express to Mr. J. Sibree her real gratitude for his prompt & efficient attention to her request. She is more obliged than her haste will allow her to tell. She has this moment received his second note for which she thanks him, & will give the note a thorough examination on her return, so as to be able to avail herself of Mr. J. Sibree's kindness should any further question arise respecting them.

Miss E. is ashamed to send so hasty an acknowledgement of a great favour but she is standing for the two or three minutes which are lrft her for writing and is afraid of leaving twenty things undone.
