Sea reptile, Ichthyosaur - vertebra

Description:Ichthyosaur vertebrae showing the range in size. The larger is 140mm in diameter, the smaller is 50mm. Individual vertebrae are the commonest part of the ichthyosaur skeleton to be found.

The large specimen is from the J.W. Kirshaw collection.

Lower Jurassic: Wilmcote Limestone Member and ?Blue Lias Formation.
Wilmcote and Shipston on Stour.

John Kirshaw was the Honorary Secretary of the Warwickshire Natural History and Archaeological Society, 1863-1877 and an Honorary Curator of Geology for that society, 1858-1877.
