Norden dedicated his engraving to the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Richard Saltonshall, as this corner of the engraving shows.

To the Right Honorable Sir Richard Saltonstall, Lord Mayor of the city of London:
Among many famous monuments within this realm none deserveth more to be set before the world’s view by demonstration than this London Bridge, and yet it hath not found so much grace among the more sufficient artists and therefore I, the meanest being, thereunto moved and have under your guard adventured to publish this rude counterfeit thereof to the end that as by report the fame of it is spread through many nations. So by this picture it may appear to such as have heard of it and not really beheld it to be of no less praiseworthy than it hath been said to be.
