Description:London: capital city of Shakespeare's England.

William Shakespeare came to London, England's capital city, about 1588. His career in the next twenty years was centred here, as he became the most popular playwright of the age. He found books and pamphlets of all kinds on the bookstalls around St Paul's cathedral churchyard, and also probably had access to the libraries of his patrons, such as the Earl of Southampton.
