Description:The tragedie of Hamlet: A page of Shakespeare's 'First Folio' text. The ‘First Folio’ presents the plays as authorised by the acting company. Some, such as Hamlet 3,1, had appeared earlier in pamphlet ‘quarto’ format, often with inaccurate, or unauthorised texts. Modern editions derive from scholarly study of the variations between ‘quarto’ and ‘folio’ texts, which attempts to establish the words originally written by Shakespeare. Full title: William Shakespeare, Mr William Shakespeares comedies, histories & tragedies published according to the True Originall Copies, London, printed by Isaac Jaggard, and Ed[ward] Blount, 1623. The 'Ashburnham' copy owned by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
