Description:Shipwrecks and storms at sea were often in the news in Shakespeare's London. The storms of the Mediterranean sea were notorious. Shakespeare included them in his plays of The Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night and Pericles in all of which shipwrecks are pivotal to the plot. In Othello the seabattle with the Turks is prevented as storms disperse the enemy fleet before the Venetians can reach them. See: The Comedy of Errors, 1,1, lines 60-93.
