Description:Shakespeare’s acting company and their theatres. In Shakespeare's time companies of actors needed a patron to exist within the law. The title-page of a 'quarto' paperback edition of one of Shakespeare's plays here uses the name of the acting company 'His Majesties Servants' to advertise the royal patronage of the players. This company performed regularly at the Globe, and also, from 1609 to 1642 at the indoor hall of Blackfriars in the city of London, as well as occasionally at court before the King. Full title: William Shakespeare, Loves labours lost. A wittie and pleasant comedie. As it was acted at the Black-Friars and the Globe. Written by William Shakespeare. London, Printed by W. S[tansby] for John Smethwicke, 1631.
