Description:A play for the Blackfriars Theatre: Shakespeare's Love’s Labour’s Lost.

The first ‘quarto' of Love’s Labour’s Lost was printed in 1598 and formed the basis for the ‘folio’ text. The academic nature of the play, and its pedantic characters make it a play that found more success in the smaller, indoor theatre at Blackfriars than in the Globe in Southwark, where it was first performed.

See: Love’s Labour’s Lost, 5,1, lines 1-66.

Full title: William Shakespeare, Loves labours lost. A wittie and pleasant comedie. As it was acted at the Black-Friars and the Globe. Written by William Shakespeare. London, Printed by W. S[tansby] for John Smethwicke, 1631.
