Description:Contemporary battles inspired woodcuts in the first edition of Shakespeare’s source.

The detailed woodcuts in Holished's first edition, inspired by contemporary Elizabethan campaigns in Ireland, or the Low Countries [Netherlands], were usually not intended to show specific events, and a number are used repeatedly through the volumes.

Full title: Raphael Holinshed, The firste [laste] volume of chronicles of England, Scotlande and Irelande. Conteyning the description and chronicles of England from the first inhabiting unto the conquest; the description and chronicles of Scotland from the first originall of the Scotts nation, till the yeare of our Lorde 1571; The description and chronicles of Yrelande likewise from the firste originall of that nation untill the yeare 1547.
