Description:Private prayers in Shakespeare's time.

Many members of the gentry and the nobility had ordained clergymen as part of their households, and had private indoor chapels, or churches in the grounds of their houses. In Hamlet, 3,3, lines 36-54, Claudius seeks to pray and confess his sins privately, and in Twelfth Night the household priest is able to perform a marriage on demand for Olivia to Sebastian, (4,3, lines 22-28), or Sir Toby Belch to Maria (5,1, line 361).
