Date:16th of February 1895

Description:Scenes from the powder ball (or 'bal poudre') at Warwick Castle, held in 1895.

The hostess, Frances Evelyn Brooke (the Countess of Warwick, also known as 'Daisy') was well known for staging such lavish occasions.

The main picture shows dancing in 'the ball room,' actually the castle's Green Drawing Room.

At the top of the page is 'the supper room,' better known as the Great Hall.

Bal Poudre means literally 'Powdered Ball' - this was a lavish recreation of a ball at the French Court in the 18th century, when the fashion for powdered wigs was high fashion.
