Description:A photographic portrait of Captain Alwyn Greville in 18th century fancy dress.
He was the son of George, 4th Earl of Warwick. This photograph was taken at a costume ball, Bal Poudre, at Warwick Castle in 1895.
His sister-in-law Frances Evelyn Brooke, the Countess of Warwick, became famous for staging such glamorous occasions.
Bal Poudre means literally 'Powdered Ball' - this was a lavish recreation of a ball at the French Court in the 18th century, when the fashion for powdered wigs was high fashion.
