Description:A photographic portrait of Constance, the Duchess of Westminster (b.1875).
She is wearing 18th century fancy dress. This photograph was taken at a costume ball, Bal Poudre, at Warwick Castle in 1895.
Frances Evelyn (or Daisy), the Countess of Warwick, became famous for staging such glamorous occasions.
Bal Poudre means literally 'Powdered Ball' - this was a lavish recreation of a ball at the French Court in the 18th century, when the fashion for powdered wigs was high fashion.
