Description:A view of the State Dining Room at Warwick Castle, taken by H.T. Cooke in around 1880.

This dining room was commissioned by the Earl of Warwick, Francis Greville, in 1763. Projecting into the courtyard, it is actually part of an extension to the castle. The doorway in the corner leads to the Great Hall.

The portrait at the end of the room features Frederick, Prince of Wales, by Jonathon Richardson. The carved pine frames, by royal craftsman Paul Petit, are coated in pure gold leaf, matching the detail on the ceilings and trim on the wall panels.

Note also the cut glass chandelier from Genoa. When Queen Victoria was entertained here, it would have been decked out with thirty-nine brightly burning candles.
