Description:A view of Guy's Tower and the Bear Tower at Warwick Castle.

The Bear Tower is actually the remains of an abortive building project begun by Richard, Duke of Gloucester (Richard III) in 1478. It is the first level of a huge keep, which was to be twice the size of Guy's Tower.

Guy's Tower is 39 metres high, and has twelve sides. When it was built, in the fourteenth century, it was the latest in military building technology. Protracting from the walls, it would have allowed archers to take a clear shot at advancing troops. During the English Civil War of the 1640s, the windows were enlarged to accommodate small cannon.
